A UF HEALTH COVID-19 RESPONSE STORY

This is another example of a story told similarly to Moe’s. The goal here was to expand Melory’s experience into a COVID-19 response story as told through the eyes of caregivers on Unit 82, an ICU unit that dealt with the most acute COVID-19 cases. I and one of my videographers used a funnel technique to tell this story, starting broadly with the COVID-19 impact on our health system, then narrowing the scope to Melory’s experience as an ECMO survivor. Melory’s was a story to celebrate, and the video closes with our caregivers exhorting others around the world to never give up; our patients place their lives in our hands. This video exploded out of the gate via social media (over 10K views in less than a month) and general news publicity, and was shared through Alachua County’s Facebook page as a must-watch inspirational story. Additionally, the Association of American Universities selected this story to represent the best in academic medicine’s COVID-19 response. It also fared very well on our internal intranet, bringing happy tears to a beleaguered healthcare team.
